Pearly Queen of Old Kent Road
On a visit to London I was utterly thrilled to meet the Pearly Queen of Old Kent Road, Doreen Golding, on the underground. I had an interesting conversation with her. The Pearly look developed from the London costermongers who used to embellish their suits with pearl buttons along the seams and pockets to give them a bit of individuality.
